We Who Sit But Cannot Sit Still

136 handmade concrete tiles have been sensitised with photographic chemistry. Over the course of a 2 month exhibition, the artist maintained the artwork with constant humidity of aforementioned chemicals. Over time, the works began to crystallise - allowing landscapes to materialise.

Spivak has spent the last three years exploring the alchemical reactions of the 18th century, specifically silver’s relationship with glass. Only Us (good pain) investigates the liminal space between narcissism and self-loathing; a fragile landscape that shapes humanity with its relentless ability to create distance between the perceived and created self.

Part of a larger solo exhibition, Fixed Not Forgotten, Melbourne. These photographic prints were laid flat in the studio, misted with chemistry and coated in resin. Left to develop and change over the course of the exhibition.

A recent rendition of an artwork conceptualised in Art School - process led and contemplative in nature. The ink/reflective surface acts as a looking glass, similar to the lake in the story of Narcissus.
