The Good Life

“Up To Now” is a six-minute movie created by artists Carol (Ayin) Es, Jonathan Nesmith, and Susan Holloway as part of Ayin Es's Exodus Project.

The movie is the narrated story of Ayin's “exodus” into the terrain near the Joshua Tree National Monument. The story is both literal and semi-abstract and features animated characters against the Joshua Tree landscape in the high desert of Southern, California.

The main animated creature is named, “Moppet,” a long-time autobiographical ragdoll kind of character that Carol (Ayin) Es has used to represent themselves in much of their paintings. Another character is a giraffe-like thing named “Yuddy,” who has a yud (Hebrew letter) as its head and is meant to represent the artist’s spiritual quest.

Moppet learns to live with their emotional baggage (or “junk”) by way of studying the Kabbalah. And in the case of this particular story, Moppet, as Ayin, finds their childlike desire for adventure, truth, and understanding.
